Important Information Mid-October
Hello!
Welcome to the beginning of the season of layering clothes! Please make sure your child is dressing appropriately for the weather. I try to ensure that students wear what they are sent to school in; however, I do not see everything and they can sneak out quickly. As we are going outside for recesses and PE and, sometimes, Healthy Hearts, students should be dressing to go outside for long periods of time. Next week this may change as the weather is supposed to get warmer again...
Some people have been inquiring about Current Events articles for their students. Currently, we are working through the articles that I provide in order for students to gain the skills required for them to summarize their own articles. Students will be required to bring their own article for Friday, October 27. Please refer to the parent handbook for details of Current Events.
Students should have brought home an order form from the De Simone Farms. This is the fundraiser we lovingly refer to as the FRUIT ORDERS although there are also cookie doughs, juices, oils and gift packs of condiments on the order forms. This is one of our biggest fund raisers for our Camp Warwa trip in June. Please buy/sell as much as you can in order to help reduce our costs for camp. These order forms are due back in by October 19 so they can be processed in time for us to get the fruit near the long weekend in November.
If you are interested in supervising for Camp Warwa, please send me a quick email. I have received a few already, but I do not want to miss anyone who wants to go. We will be making the draw before the Christmas break and letting the chosen people know shortly after the draw. Thanks to all who have already volunteered!
On October 19, all students from grade 1-4 will be going to see the entertainer, FRED PENNER. Students have been practicing his songs and learning all about him for a few weeks. Please be sure to sign your child's permission form in Powerschool to ensure his/her attendance at this performance. I will post a short blurb about Mr. Penner below. I have received a few emails for volunteers for this trip - I will be contacting you shortly if you are selected to accompany us.
We will be hosting parent-teacher meetings on the nights of October 25 (Wednesday) from 3:15 - 7:00 PM and October 26 (Thursday) from 3:15 -5:00 PM. Bookings for these will be available on-line through a link that will be emailed to you soon. If these nights do not work for you, please contact me and I will try to make an alternative plan. I would like to see all parents, if possible, as I like to be able to brag about the students in person.
Photo re-takes are on October 27.
Halloween, this year, is on a Tuesday. Costumes are to be worn to school in the morning, and our costume parade will be in the gym at the beginning of the day. Please be sure your student's costume is school appropriate - no weapons in particular. Our class will be hosting regular classes in the morning, with some Halloween activities in the afternoon. Please check the parent handbook to see what and if your student has signed up to bring some treats. November 1 is a PD day and no students will be in attendance at school.
There will be a Remembrance Day ceremony on November 10 in the afternoon. We will not be having an assembly in the morning - there is not a student of the week for this week. Please join us for this somber occasion as we remember.
Please feel free to contact me at the school through email, a phone call or a quick pop in.
