Transition Activities

Dear Grade 4 Parents and Guardians,

It’s that time of year where we begin to think about the transition of our grade 4 students to Riverview Middle School (RMS). Over the next several months, there are activities planned that will help create a smooth transition for our grade 4 students moving to grade 5.

February 7th - Pancake Breakfast
  • RMS will host a pancake breakfast.
  • RBES grade 4 students will walk to RMS at 8:30 AM.
  • RMS leadership students will provide a tour to RBES students.
  • The activity will end with a pancake breakfast in the gym prior to walking back to RBES.
May 9th - Grade 5 Shadow Experience (Grade 4B/4C)
May 10th - Grade 5 Shadow Experience (Grade 4A)
  • RBES students will walk to RMS at 9:30 AM.
  • The attending class will be split between the 3 RMS grade 5 classes.
  • RBES students will shadow RMS classes, schedule and routine.
  • Each teacher will provide a lesson giving students an idea of what to expect.  This will also be an opportunity for teachers to address any questions or concerns in a classroom setting.
  • Most importantly, students will be able to make a more personal connection with the teacher, class routines, and school.
  • RBES students will bring a snack, participate in activities, and walk back to RBES for lunch.

There is no cost for these activities, but please ensure that you complete the online permission form.

Musical Ride

We had an awesome presentation from the Lord Strathcona's Mounted Regiment.  I actually took a few pictures, and will be sharing them with you (In random order -ask your student to order them).  The first part of the presentation was a classroom section where a member of the Regiment came into our classroom and spoke to the students.  He then answered questions the students asked.  After that, we went outside to see the trailer the horses travel in while on the road as well as ask a few more questions of the Members at that location.  We ended by watching the Musical Ride.  What an experience!  Please ask your child about his or her thoughts as you are winding down tonight.

Welcome to October! This is a busy month for grade four.  We begin with a parent meeting Tuesday, October 7, 2014 to discuss the upcoming trip to DRUMHELLER.  Your voice is important, so please be sure to come and have input as to how this trip will happen.  Discussion topics will include: chaperones, financing, curricular ties, dates and more. School photos are being taken on October 7, as well.  I f your child is wearing 'fancy' clothes for photos, please send along a set of regular clothes to be worn after photos are taken. Hot lunch and milk programs begin this month - if you did not purchase either yet, you will have to wait until November to begin. Deadline for November orders is October 24. We will soon have our set timetable for the year - I will be sending home a copy of this as well as placing one inside of the agenda - glued inside.
