October 19 - 23
Hello!
We have been working hard in our classes, and there is a lot to share. First, I want to let you know some important information.
Halloween activities are going to be in the MORNING of Friday, October 30. Please send your child dressed in his/ her costume. The costume parade will be during the assembly, followed by regular assembly activities, then a modified morning. Our class will be doing Halloween related centres for the morning, and sharing special snacks just after the 'normal' recess break.
In the afternoon, we have a special drum presentation. This presentation will take most of the afternoon, which is why we are having Halloween activities in the morning. If you have any questions about the day, please call or email me at the school.
Math - we are working on number sense of comparing numbers and ordering them. The students are experiencing a lot of success with this unit!
LA - we are continuing to work on 'context' and how it is applied to word meanings, story lines and real life situation.
We are also going to be participating in an initiative called the HLAT. This is a written test which is used to determine the student's Highest Level of Achievement for writing. We are not using this initiative as a formal assessment, but rather as a help to develop a similar system in our schools. It is not marked by me, and I simply forward it to our contact person who, along with a team, mark it comparatively to be used to determine future years' process. Some of the pieces of writing may, anonymously, be used as writing exemplars.
Social - we have completed our discovery of the symbols and icons of Alberta. We are now beginning work on the natural regions of Alberta and what makes the different regions unique from each other. Our Current Events sessions have been great with many of our students remembering to bring an article every week. Nicely done grade 4!
I am going to be away at a conference for the next few days. This means that I will not be able to communicate with you as I am away from my school computer. If your child has not yet sent an article for me to print for CE (if this is a usual method), please know that I will be unable to print any more this week.
Science - we are continuing the unit of Waste and Our World. We have been completing many experiments, and should be wrapping up our unit within the next few days. Our unit final exam will be on November 10, barring the unforeseen.
Parent-Teacher meetings will be held on November 4. Please book your time slot to ensure that we have a chance to discuss your child's progress thus far. To book your meeting please go to our events page; under calendar on our website and follow the simple instructions: http://rbes.blackgold.ca/calendar/events/
Have a great weekend!
