Student of the Week Post #1: November 23 - 27

Hello!

Welcome to the weekly blog of 4C!

Today (Monday) we had a great social studies discussion about some of the challenges that the Oilsands face.  We also discussed some possible solutions to these challenges.

In Science, we discovered what happens to objects when they are covered with different colours of acetate.

We began working with Mrs. Fleming in LA.  It was great! We also continued reading our new library books in the hope of accomplishing the 40 book challenge. Some of us have read many books while some have only read a few - but we are all reading! Keep reading and don't forget to write it down in your Reader's Journal to refer to when you conference with Mrs. Spreen.

In math, we continued working through parts of sets and solving word problems using addition and subtraction.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday's notes:

In math we are continuing to work on large number addition and subtraction. We are working with numbers up to the hundred thousands place.

Social has us working on posters to try to convince other people that our industry is the best for our province.  We have chosen between Alberta's top 3 industries - forestry, agriculture and oil and gas.

Science we have been completing experiments to see what happens with light in different situations.  We also used the chromebooks to try some of the light activities on the BGRS Engaging Students webpage.  There a re a lot of cool activities on this page!

In language arts we are continuing to work with similies, metaphors and idioms.  They are a lot of fun!  We are currently working on finding examples of these figures of speech in literature.  We are also working with Mrs. Fleming on a writing project.

Art was a riot this week as we created our stockings to be hung by our classroom brick wall.  If Mrs. Spreen knew how to put pictures on the blog, you could see how much fun we had.  Perhaps she ought to learn how to share these photos with you!  (I know!  I have been trying to find help, but so far haven't been able to get the photos on the blog - I am working on it though...)  We also made some gingerbread men with our left over craft supplies - they are very cool!

In music we are working very hard practicing for concert.  If you know that your child will not be in the concert, please let Mrs. Spreen know so we can plan accordingly.

Have a great long weekend!
