November 30 - December 4 SoW post 2
Hello!
Monday
Today music was fun and in a week we will have the Christmas concert - December 7 at 6:30pm. Also, we will be making gingerbread houses out of milk cartons. Please remember to send supplies in by December 16.
Tuesday
Math - We started multiplying. We were using our desks to create arrays. We then had to make groups of numbers to make the equations.
LA - We did another pretest for the STARS reading program. In writing we worked on the beginning of our 'stuck' story.
Science - We saw what things were opaque, transparent and translucent. we used flashlights to determine the category of objects.
Social - We are still making our posters.
PE - We did a few 'Just Dance' dances because the gym is being used for concert rehearsals.
Wednesday and beyond...
LA - We continued the STARS pretests, and are now finished all 5. Mrs. Spreen will review them over the next few weeks and have a plan for our reading units beginning after the break.
We have been working with Mrs. Fleming on writing. Our stories are coming along well, and we have almost reached the 'stuck' part.
We have been focussing on handwriting with a big push to finish lower case letters before the break so we can learn capitals in the new year.
Math - We are learning multiplication and how it is related to addition. There is a specific way to read a multiplication algorithm. Ask your student what this special way is. We will be working on this concept until well after Christmas.
Social - We are finishing our posters and will be starting a new topic next week - after the concert hoopla is finished. There will be NO MORE CURRENT EVENTS until January 2016.
Science - We have been continuing on with our LIGHTS AND SHADOWS unit. We have done some very cool experiments. We hope to wrap up this unit before the break, and will have a unit final during the last week of school in December.
