November 8 - Academic Update

Image
Hello! It has been a while since I wrote an academic update, and so I thought I would use some of our brainstorming from today's KidBlog posts to support what we have been learning about. For those who have forgotten, KidBlog is a writing forum which we use every day Monday through Thursday to help us achieve writing outcomes.  On Thursday, we write about 3 things we have learned during the week, 2 things that we liked about the week, and 1 question we have going forward.  Before the students write, we brainstorm to help us remember all we have done during the week. The photos demonstrate some of our brainstorming for this week.  Ask your child to help you make sense of the photos! Last week, we worked with our grade 1 friends to create some art for the front foyer frames. The following pictures show a glimpse at the fun we had. Please join us Friday morning at 10:45 for our Remembrance Day ceremony.  We will be presenting "IN FLANDERS FIELD"

We have had some questions about a code when booking Parent Teacher Meetings.  The code (rbes8) and details on how to book are available  on our website.    If you use  this link  you do not need to enter a code - you just enter your email address and names and go.     Other October Reminders

October 1

October has arrived amidst cold weather and busy classrooms. We have entered into another of our busiest academic months! We will be having a few special presentations this month as well. First, on October 10, we will be having the Atco Blue Flame kitchen crew in to cook with us.  I do not know what we will be cooking, yet, but I am excited for this cooking lesson and I cannot wait to taste the students' creations. The second special presentation we will be having is the Earth Rangers.  I have never been at this presentation before, so I do not know what to expect; however, when I googled them, it looks super exciting. This presentation is on October 23. Also on October 23, we will be having Parent-teacher-student conferences.  There will be a schedule sent out for you to sign up for your appointment time - please stay tuned for that information. Please remember that there is no school this Monday for Thanksgiving, or Friday the 19th because of a PD day. Our Halloween festivities

Terry Fox Walk is coming

Image
We are happy that Black Gold has included the walking field trip form again so any field trips that are just walking in Devon will be covered and you will not have to complete a form for each one.  Your teacher will communicate with you closer to the time when they will be for each event.   Our first walking field trip is the Terry Fox Walk on Friday, September 28. Your child will not be able to participate in the Terry Fox Walk if you have not completed this form - included in the Verification Forms.    To complete the verification forms, log on to PowerSchool.  We have detailed instructions  on our website  as we have had many frequent questions.  You will see that the verification forms will show that your child is in the "wrong" year.  Black Gold set up the process for the majority of the schools who do this process in the Spring - so it shows your next school and grade for next year.  We do ours now - so you just have to ignore that.  There are other questions y

September 13 - A White Thursday

Hello, Quite the weather we are having this week, I must say.  I do not mind the cooler temperatures as it helps us to settle into school routines.  We have been busy learning this week: Social - we are reviewing directions and mapping skills from last year.  This will help us in our discussions about Alberta and its location within Canada.  It will also help us as we learn where our ancestors and early settlers have come from in Alberta's past.  We have begun a visual dictionary of landscapes found within Alberta to help us as we explore Alberta's uniqueness. Science - we are beginning our year with the topic of Waste and Our World .  We have sorted out what truly is trash and what are durable, non-durable and disposable goods. We began a discussion about "recycleables" and "compostables", but have not yet completed it. Math - Nearly everyday, we complete a "MAD MINUTE" based on products.  (It is a misnomer as it is a 2 minute timed test.)

Welcome Back!

September 4, 2018 WELCOME TO 4C! I think it's exciting to have this new group of students to work with today - and that means new parents to 4C as well!  Just a few things you need to know about 4C: 1.  I am a terrible blogger. I forget. I don't take pictures - don't even think about it until after the experience has passed. I will try to be better. I promise I will try. 2.  There aren't many assigned homework tasks.  If your child works well in class, during class time, he/she probably won't have much homework.  If he/she is absent from school, then, he/she may have homework. 3.  There will be a parent handbook coming home shortly.  I am just editting it for this year, and will be sending it home (paper copy, please let me know if your family needs more than 1 paper copy for multiple households). 4. We hope to be hosting a parent information night on September 13, at 6:30 PM. In addition to sharing information about this year, we will be requesting vo

Hello, As this school year winds to an end, I want to take the opportunity to thank-you.  Thank-you for letting me come into your world for the last 10 months. Thank-you for allowing me to teach your child and supporting me in classroom decisions and events. Thank-you for allowing me to be firm when necessary, goofy when we could and adventurous as often as possible. Thank-you for sharing your child.  I hope they are a wiser, braver and more confident. Thank-you for the encouraging words from you and your generosity through out the year.  It has truly lifted me up when times were challenging. Thank-you. I am so proud to have worked with your children this year.   May you have the best summer and enjoy each moment with your family.  Mrs. Spreen

You may sponsor in any way you want (ie. 0.25¢per word spelled correctly). We hope this will be an added incentive for children to become better spellers, as well as a fundraiser for our school. The monies raised this year will be used to support field trips, swimming lessons and health and wellness projects (this could include items such as new gym equipment, new playground balls, frisbees etc., mindful tools for classrooms, emotional wellness resources and items for health and wellness days).
