December

Hello! It has been a long, cold month!  Thankfully the weather change allowed students to have outdoor recesses this week - they have certainly enjoyed being outside!   Our month began with our Christmas Concert first and foremost.  Once we had our actual performance, our routines were restored, and we accomplished a lot of work.  We have been learning a lot in spite of the quickly approaching holiday break. LA - We have been working on handwriting - this is ongoing, and students progress at their own pace.  Students who have confidence in their abilities are progressing quickly while those less sure are taking their time to learn the proper formations before moving on.  Students are encouraged to use handwriting in their daily notes once they have regained or gained their confidence. We have continued to work with nouns in grammar.  We have been making plurals, noticing odd plurals (rule breakers) and making singulars from plurals.  The students will be beginning with adjecti

November

Hello!  It's been a while... LA - In grammar, we have been working on nouns - proper and common - identifying them and making them either plural or singular.  We have also been continuing with sentence structure and combining simple sentences.  This has proven to be a difficult concept, so we have been spending extra time on combining sentences. In reading, we have continued to work on main ideas, and have also introduced the concept of INFERRING or making/drawing conclusions.  We are having a lot of fun with this right now and the students are able to make inferences quite well.  We will be continuing with this concept for a few more days, and then beginning to work on cause and effect. In spelling/word work, we are continuing to work on words that have common long vowel sounds. The students have access to their activities through Spelling City online (log-in information is in the agenda).  If they have a chance to work on these from home, that will help them in the classro

Christmas Cards and Halloween - in the same post!

A few important things:  CHRISTMAS CARDS We did not display our Christmas cards for the fundraiser during Parent-Teacher meetings, and so I have posted pictures of the students holding his or her creation.  Please take a look at the wonderful cards, and then complete the order form which was sent home with your child today.  If your child was part of the SWAT team touring the School Board Trustees today, the last photo contains his or her card. Order forms are due back by November 4.  Thanks! HALLOWEEN Our Halloween festivities will be on MONDAY, OCTOBER 31.  Students are encouraged to wear their costumes to school as our costume parade, in the gym, will be first thing in the morning.  Please come and watch this with us!  We will continue back to our classroom to do some Halloween activities and some Halloween themed learning.   After our regular lunch , (which each student is responsible for bringing his/her own) we will be

Garbage Day

Image
Friday was our garbage sorting day.  Enjoy the photos below, and ask your student about what was going on... We found we had over 7 kilograms (15.4 pounds) of wasted food! This was in addition to the recyclables, plastic and paper waste we created. This week we have challenged ourselves to a garbageless lunch and snack week.  If today is any indication, we have a long way to go to become garbageless!  Hopefully now that we have been reminded, there will be less garbage in our class!   Hope you enjoyed the photos and your student's accompanying story...

October Update... to the 14th!

Welcome to October...although it may appear to be more like December! Hopefully it warms up a bit so this snow can melt and the farmers can finish the harvest.     Since the snow and cool temperatures have hit,  I encourage you to remind your child that warm winter clothing is required in weather conditions like these. Many of 4C's students have not been wearing coats, boots, hats or mitts/gloves, and when recess is over these students are cold and wet.  We do not have any heaters to dry articles of clothing between recesses, so if a student is wet from the first recess, they are even wetter after the lunch recess.   This does not allow them to focus on their work, as they are too uncomfortable to concentrate.     Our Language Arts program has been focussing on subjects and predicates - locating them in sentences, completing them, identifying simple subjects or simple predicates within complete phrases.  We have also discussed adjectives helping to identify subjects, adverbs

City Slickers

September 24, 2016 WOW! What an excellent day we had at the City Slickers program.  Thanks to all of the sponsors who participated in this event.  It was very well organized and the students appeared to have a blast.  We hope to do it again next year! I managed to take some photos, again.  Don't get used to this! Below, in random order, are the photos that were taken.  There are photos of the presenters and their presentations as well as the displays we were able to view.  Also included are some #FELFIES from the Forage association's booth.  The students enjoyed posing for these.  Enjoy reviewing our day in photos...
