What an excellent Terry Fox Run/Walk!  A huge thank-you to all organizers and volunteers!  The students completed a short walk because of the rain, but as Mr. Henderson stated, "Terry ran in all kinds of weather.  He didn't let the rain stop him."
Well done, RBES students!

This week in language arts the students have been introduced to "The Secret Knowledge of Grown-ups" revealed and illustrated by David Wisniewski.  It is a story written to enlighten children to the 'real' reasons parents tell children to do things - not the lies we have been passing along. We have been using the book to guide our vocabulary development and to begin to notice differences in text.  As it is an engaging story, it also helps us to become engaged listeners.  Other lessons from this book will be helping us to develop as writers using mentor text.

Math has been a continuation of Patterns. We have discovered many ways to investigate, name and continue patterns with numbers.  If you would like to practice this concept at home, ask your child to skip count by a specific number or give them a set of 3 numbers and ask them to complete a fact family for the given numbers. (An example of this is: given the number set - 5,9, 45.  5 X 9  =45, 9 X 5 =45, 45/5 = 9, and 45/9 = 5.  All 4 equations are part of the fact family.)

We had our first summative assessment last week. The students di d well on this assessment - if you have not yet seen your child's test, please ask him/her to bring home his/her social duotang.  (The test has been placed into the duotang.) Social has also seen us discovering the natural regions of Alberta.  We had a question sent in the agendas to see how many adults could remember what our natural region is and we were surprised that only one family knew. For the record, it is the Parkland region.

Science had us using technology to discover what happens when we adjust the RGB values of the additive colours of light.  If you don't understand this last comment, ask your student if he/she can explain it. We also worked with the subtractive colours of light - ask about these as well!

Please remember to click on the AGENDA tab for important notes about upcoming events.

Enjoy your weekend!
