The End of April is Near.

WOW! Has April flown past!

We have been very busy with core courses, but have also had many feature days.  We recently participated in SUPER CRAZY DAY and many students were as crazy as their outfits!

2 weeks ago, we went to the Edmonton Waste Management Centre.  It was an excellent adventure and the students learned many tidbits of information.  Our guide for the tour was very knowledgeable and friendly.  He was able to answer all of the questions the students asked!

We have finished our Building Devices unit in the last while. A lot of the students built creative marble tracks and vehicles.  Thanks to everyone who contributed to the projects with your recyclable boxes, bottles and containers.  We also appreciated the extra tape which was sent to help us build.

We have begun our Plant Growth and Change unit.  We will be planting some different things today, including a Venus Flytrap!  The students are quite excited about this unit which is encouraging.

In Language Art, we are continuing with our poetry unit.  The students are becoming aware of the different types of poetry as authors, readers and orators.  It is interesting to see the students gain confidence in their abilities.  You will be able to read some of the written poems when your child brings home his/her writing journal. Ask them to share this with you.

Math has been fun as we learn about telling time on an analog clock.  Many people do not use these clocks, preferring the digital clock, so many students are unfamiliar with hands to tell time.  We are continuing with elapsed time and the 24 hour clock this week.  We will be moving into measurement next week beginning with estimation followed by area and perimeter.  This unit will see us through until the middle of May.

In Social, we continue to discover the development of Alberta as a nation.  We are now exploring with the settlers and homesteaders. We will soon be beginning our work on 'FAMOUS ALBERTANS'. This is a research project where the students will take on the personality of the character in Alberta's past who they have researched and present the biography of this person to the school in June.  More information will be shared when we begin the project - watch for it.

Tomorrow we will be participating in the TIMSS test.  This is a test regarding the international trends in mathematics and sciences. Please refer to https://nces.ed.gov/TIMSS/ for more information or contact Mrs. Kloschinsky.

Friday, May 1, (that is this Friday) is the last day to have permission forms completed for the Drumheller trip.  There will not be any extensions.  If you have not yet filled out your child's permission form, please do so at your earliest convenience - also, please let me know if you child is not going to be accompanying us on this trip.

There was a newsletter sent home today regarding the "Clay Guy".  If you are able to help us with creating the clay projects, please return the letter with your name and signature on the bottom of the page.

Milk orders for the remainder of the year are due today.

Please refer to the school's calendar if you are ever questioning what is going on at the school.  id you know there is a music blog (http://rbesmusic.blogspot.ca/) as well as a PE blog (http://www.rbespe.blogspot.ca/)?  Please check them out if you have a moment.

Have a great week!
