January 14 - 18 Week in Review

These are the summaries of our week's accomplishments which we used to write our Thursday KidBlog. Please ask your student for  details if you are interested in finding out more!

Math:

  • ·       Adobe Spark – making videos from the picture banks we created to go with our oral stories
  • ·       CE – many have forgotten to check for an article in a paper. Hopefully we get some papers for tomorrow.

  • ·       Experimented with levers

LA:
  • ·       James and the Giant Peach – Old Green Grasshopper played his legs like a violin.  Something happened to the centipede.
  • ·       SWI – When you add a prefix to a base element starting with a consonant, you just add the prefix without doing anything to the base element. dis +play à display, re+play à replay
  • ·       Sticky Note sorting for an outline à categories to start our research

PE:
  • ·       Skill – jumping and landing on 2 feet
  • ·       Shark game
  • ·       British Bulldog
  • ·       Centres

Music:
  • ·       Harmony – 4 part, 3 part
  • ·       Performance for the grade 1s

Art:
  • ·       Wax crayon resist water colours drawing
  • ·       Wax repels paint


Extras:
  • ·       Had outdoor recesses
  • ·       DIBELS
  • ·       KaHoots were fun!
  • ·       Mrs. Waters visited us for 2 afternoons while DIBELS was occurring

Musical Ride

We had an awesome presentation from the Lord Strathcona's Mounted Regiment.  I actually took a few pictures, and will be sharing them with you (In random order -ask your student to order them).  The first part of the presentation was a classroom section where a member of the Regiment came into our classroom and spoke to the students.  He then answered questions the students asked.  After that, we went outside to see the trailer the horses travel in while on the road as well as ask a few more questions of the Members at that location.  We ended by watching the Musical Ride.  What an experience!  Please ask your child about his or her thoughts as you are winding down tonight.

Welcome to October! This is a busy month for grade four.  We begin with a parent meeting Tuesday, October 7, 2014 to discuss the upcoming trip to DRUMHELLER.  Your voice is important, so please be sure to come and have input as to how this trip will happen.  Discussion topics will include: chaperones, financing, curricular ties, dates and more. School photos are being taken on October 7, as well.  I f your child is wearing 'fancy' clothes for photos, please send along a set of regular clothes to be worn after photos are taken. Hot lunch and milk programs begin this month - if you did not purchase either yet, you will have to wait until November to begin. Deadline for November orders is October 24. We will soon have our set timetable for the year - I will be sending home a copy of this as well as placing one inside of the agenda - glued inside. For math this week, we are trying to wrap up the patterns unit with a unit exam on Friday.  Your child will be bringing home a

January 20, 2015 IMPORTANT INFORMATION: 1.) Skiing February 2, 2015   The grade 4 classes will be skiing at Rabbit Hill on February 2, 2015.  Below are the details as provided by Mr. Henderson. Departure time:  8:30  - Return to school  4:00  - need to arrange for pick up as buses will not be available Pricing options: a) Full package - rental equipment (skis or snowboard); lift pass, lesson, and transportation - $43.00                                b) Lift, lesson, and Transportation (have own equipment) - $26.00                                c) Rentals, lesson, and transportation (have own hill pass) - $22.00                                d) Lesson and transportation (have own equipment and lift pass) - $5.00 Students will need to bring a lunch.  There is a concession available should students wish to bring money to buy lunch or snacks. Deadline for permission forms and payment is  January 30 , 3:30 - NO late payments or payments on the day of the trip
